ESPN just isn’t satisified covering sports. The mega-network is about to subject us to yet another useless segment that goes on for weeks. Following in the footsteps of the “Greatest Highlight of All-Time” and “Who’s Now?”, ESPN is going to air a “Battle of the Bands” on Baseball Tonight, as they search for the best version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”

If anyone just saw Peter Gammons belt out his rendition, god have mercy on your soul. I’m so so sorry.

Note to ESPN, I rather watch Steve Phillips tell us what big league clubs should do to improve themselves. Ya know, the same GM who completely flubbed up the Mets with bone-head moves. Instead of doing this Battle of the Bands, why don’t you show us more highlights? Right now all we get to see are home-runs, web gems, and the nasty strikeout pitches. Show us some of the young players the common fan would not know about. There are so many great young players right now, show some of the best players in the minors so fans can know them before they get the call.

What’s that ESPN?  You still want to find the best version of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”? Okay, I’ll save you the 2 weeks, and also show mercy to the rest of us who are slaves to your monopoly on televised sports highlights, by providing the best version there for you right now. Consider the search over. Battle of the Bands unnecessary. Without further ado… sing it Willie!
